Brand your business like a comic book

Here are some of the key branding aspects found in Batman and Robin issue #13 that should be in place for your business’ branding efforts. If you missed the prior post about advertising in comics, you can find it here .

1. Consistent imagery – One artist does all of the artwork within the pages of this comic. No matter what page you turn to, the art will have a consistent look.  Batman will look like he should on every page. The same holds true for Robin, the Joker, Commissioner Gordon, and the Batmobile. Your company’s logo should always have the same look and the same color scheme, whether it is on the outside of your shop or in an online ad for your business. Consistent imagery helps to reinforce your business’s identity with customers.


2. Color adds appeal – Though the artwork in comics can be attractive on its own, the color added to the inked images can really add a level of pop to any image. A little bit of a color shift can cause the eye to focus on that area. As shown in the example below, the red colored area stands out from the blues and grays of the surrounding images. In your business, don’t be afraid to have a logo with some color to catch the eye of the customer driving by, the reader of the magazine that your ad is placed, or the patron on a walk through town. If the surrounding businesses use blues and grays, choose a red to stand out from the people in the surrounding shops and buildings.


3. Repetition builds awareness – This comic book has a title page with the title Batman and Robin in plain view and has an end page that reminds the reader to read the next issue, also with the Batman and Robin title on display. Repeating your branding statement more than once can help remind customers about your business. It also helps the next time they see your logo, or branding, to connect it with your business. The more aware that customers are of who your business is and what it does, the more likely they are to purchase from you when the time is right.


Though this example focuses on comic books, it is really about business in general. Customers continue to buy from your company when they feel a connection to your company. They also must like what your company is selling. Since your business benefits from the income generated from your new and repeat customers, it benefits you to make sure that there is a strong brand associated with your business so you can stand out in customers’ minds and can generate the income it needs to thrive.
