Big time companies with small time websites
I recently visited the website of a potential client who was looking for some help with his web and print marketing. The client is an extremely successful man who has a prestigious company known throughout the country. Knowing about his accomplishments, I could not have been more surprised by what I found on his site.
The look and feel of the site was “late 1990s”. The site was heavily frame oriented and unappealing. One of the oddest features was that you had to scroll part of the way down the screen to see the whole logo of the company. The headers were severely off center and almost right aligned.
On the plus side, the copywriting on the site was current and it did have a well-produced video on the site. They made good use of client testimonials and their client list was impressive and consisted of large international companies. But even these things could not make up for the dated and clumsy overall look of the site.
This was truly a big time company with a small time website. Though the technology the company is using is cutting edge, its website does not reflect that same quality. Big time companies don’t need to spend millions on website development, but they do need to use a portion of their marketing budget to ensure that the look and the feel of their website are current. With a new and up-to date design, the website could be doing a lot more to sell this company as the industry leader it is.
